Lydia O'Donnell

Lydia O'Donnell, Ed.D., is deputy director of HHD and director of HHD's Center for Research on High Risk Behaviors. She oversees projects ranging from evaluations of HIV prevention programs to comprehensive community-based interventions, to evaluations of changes in access to health care services. In particular, she has effectively used qualitative strategies to identify cultural differences in sexual norms and practices and to develop culturally sensitive interventions. Dr. O'Donnell is principal investigator of the Reach for Health project, a longitudinal study of the health behaviors of middle and high school students and a study of the mental health and suicide risks among minority adolescents and ways to collaborate with community organizations to improve services for minority youth. She is also principal investigator of the Young Brothers' project in New York City and the Women's HIV Prevention intervention project, working with Latina women and community agencies to increase access to preventive services and care.
