This report provides State Maternal and Child Health (MCH) professionals with information about child maltreatment and how they can help prevent the abuse and neglect of children. It includes four sections: summary of the extent, causes, and consequences of child maltreatment; description of MCH programs’ contribution to preventing child maltreatment; discussion of child maltreatment as a Title V State Performance Measure and case studies of five States that designated child maltreatment as a State Performance Measure.
