HHD addresses health issues worldwide. Our programs and products offer evidence-based guidance to a global audience of decision-makers, including ministers of health and education, and health practitioners about the best strategies to promote school health and about many health concerns including HIV and AIDS and mental health.

We work closely with several United Nations agencies; since 1998, HHD has been designated as a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center to Promote Health through Schools and Communities. Over the years, our efforts have yielded many products and services such as guidelines for the WHO Information Series on School Health; technical assistance for successful implementation of Health-Promoting Schools, which encourages schools to become healthier learning and working environments; and professional education through an online version of a WHO injury and violence prevention curriculum for practitioners.

HHD has also partnered with international non-governmental organizations and foundations to advocate for and advance health initiatives globally. Currently HHD serves as the Secretariat for the International Alliance for Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Schools. We are also a key partner of the Universal Education Foundation, working to improve the well-being of children in their learning environments.

HHD collaborates with UNESCO, UNICEF, and the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, all of which also collaborate on FRESH—Focusing Resources on Effective School Health. HHD also participates on the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) Inter-Agency Task Team on HIV and AIDS in the education sector.
